My alternator refused to alternate any further last night.
Here we see the issue.

I don’t know about your alternator problem, but it looks like your turbo is missing a belt.

Indeed. It only ran for about ten minutes on the battery before the lights became so dim that I had to pull in.

I had to limp mine the 10 km home in small sections because the serpentine belt drives the water pump on the Ford 4.6.

They recommend opening up as it were so as to avoid having the polisher slip and start grinding the paintwork.
